Airielle
Her History
She was originally named Maude I. Jones after a favorite school teach of the original owners. She was designed by Robert Finch and custom built in Los Angeles CA, along with a sistership. To my knowledge, only these two were ever built. After living aboard her for a couple of years, it is obvious to me that Mr. Finch had a very solid understanding of cruising boat design. She is extremely strong and comfortable, with her cold molded hull and ample capacity for dry stores, water and fuel.
She was sailed on the West Coast for over two decades by her original owners. Her second owners took her on a 10 year trip around the world. After their 15 year love affair with her, she was purchased by her third owner who renamed her Airielle and sailed her along the East Coast. In April of 2008, I bought her and began living aboard and exploring the Long Island Sound while working in New York City.
She almost seems to whisper "let's go!, let's go!" like a young golden retriever begging for a run. She already has one trip around the world under her keel...who knows?
