Seamanship
The Cruising Passage expeditions are jam packed with opportunities for practice. In port before departure, we will discuss our intended trip plan, take a good look at the weather, go over the boats safety features. Once underway, we will quickly get into the routine of a multiple day passage. Most trips are designed to take you bit further offshore than you may have been before, yet also provide the chance to pull into harbor and drop the hook.
Heavy Focus on the Following Areas...
Navigation, GPS and Dead Reckoning
Currents and Tides
Weather
Sail Handling, Reefing and Heaving To
Anchoring and Mooring
Standing Watches and Overnight Passages
Boat Systems - Diesel, Electrical, Water
Mastering these skills takes many years, but it is the learning that is so rewarding. These trips provide endless opportunities to practice seamanship skills that you have always wanted to learn more about, but just may not have found the right time and place. Everyone brings something of value to the trip and we will all be learning from each other.
